BuySellOldBooks.com is a community service initiative directed to improving our environment, besides providing affordable books to everyone. I am also committed to keeping this site free for our users.

In order to run a successful site, it should be constantly improving to cater for the needs of users. Some of these functionalities including professionally managed database and personalized client support require immense effort and resources. I am also planning to appoint representatives shortly to provide personalized client support, which will also require substantial resources.

To meet part of the expenses for providing enhanced services to our users, I have decided to accept some advertising on the website on a trial basis. Most of the returning user must have noticed this difference to the website. Ideally, it would be desirable for the website to work on a breakeven basis.

Recently, we have introduced a new References section which contains articles written by people on books in India. By having a formal section for articles, it allows everyone to share their thoughts on books and also gain free exposure. Furthermore, this will add as a reference point on Indian books to which people can refer to when buying or selling books. The articles will also help spread the message of reducing waste and saving trees by re-circulating old books.

In addition, you will also find articles on topics like Indian History, IIT-JEE, relevance of old books, Sunday Book Bazaar in Delhi, and authors like Arundhati Roy, and Anita Desai. We hope you enjoy reading the articles and find them enlightening and useful.

Well, it seems that the new Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows book frenzy is finally subsiding. I must admit that I woke up at 7am in the morning on the day of the launch to buy the book. After I finished reading the book in only 2 days, I re-sold it on BuySellOldBooks.com for 50% of the price. Also, many other Harry Potter fans have managed to sell their new book which is great to see as the new book is quite expensive.

Apart from this, membership and visitors to the site have increased due to word-of-mouth. More people are visiting the site from all parts of India. Moreover, we are planning to introduce a number of features especially for students! This will include free prizes, certificates, and much more.

We have introduced a revised set of Quality Standards that must be followed to sell books on BuySellOldBooks.com. This has been done to provide accurate and up-to-date information to Buy Books. Moreover, this way allow buyers to make informed decisions when buying books.

The Quality Standards are maintained by our automated Quality Assurance Software (QAS). The QAS checks all books adhere to the Quality Standards and takes an appropriate action if necessary.

In particular, there are four main Quality Standards which are enforced by the QAS:

• Books must not be fake or ambiguous. For each book, the Title and the author fields must be correctly and unambiguously filled.
• The Title and the author fields of each book must not contain any obscene language, and should be free of spelling mistakes.
• A user must not list a book more than once at the same or different selling prices.
• Books should not remain listed on the website for more than three months unless validated by the user at the end of three months period. This is to ensure that the books which have been sold or given away are deleted.

Most sellers will not notice any changes since most books follow the Quality Standards.

After receiving feedback from our users, we have decided to introduce a Report Seller feature on the Buy Books page. For every book listed, there will be a link called Report Seller which will allow you to file a complaint against the Seller for the following reasons:

• If the Seller is not responding to your messages
• If the book is offensive
• If the the book is sold or not available

When you lodge a complaint via the Report Seller feature, our Support Team investigates your complaint. If we deem that the above is true, then we will remove the Seller’s Books immediately from the website.

The majority of our Sellers follow the rules and we appreciate the time and effort put in by Sellers to list their books on the website. In fact, this feature will also aid the Sellers as the Report Seller feature will remove the small amount of unwanted books and give more exposure to genuine Sellers.

Regular visitors of the website would have noticed that the Buy Books section has been modified to provide accurate and up-to-date details of books. There have been 3 major changes in this regard:

• Each book listed on the Buy Books page has a separate link which provides more details about the book. In particular, it is possible to view images of books along with reviews. Currently, there are not many images or reviews as these features were added in the last couple of days. In the coming days and weeks, you will see more images and reviews for books.
• It is now possible for anyone to upload an image for a book or write a review. To upload an image, click on the book title, and then click on Upload Image. The image must be in jpg, jpeg, or gif format and the size of the image must be less than 1.5mb. To write a review for a book, click on Write a Review.
• The Buy Books page has been modified to include New Arrivals. This means that books listed within the last couple of days are shown to the buyers as New Arrivals. By introducing New Arrivals, sellers with newly listed books will receive more buyer inquiries. and buyers will be able to make informed decisions on buying books.

Dear Guests and Members,

As you would have noticed, we have changed the design of the site to fullscreen and dramatically improved the graphics and the general layout. Also, we have added a Category Menu to the left hand side of the page so that buyers can select a category to view easily. You will also notice that we have put a Top Sellers list on the right hand side of the page. This is a ranking system based on the amount of books that each seller has put for sale. This should help buyers locate good sellers and more importantly allow buyers to buy books in bulk from those sellers. Furthermore, sellers gain recognition for putting a large amount of books on the site by being on the Top Sellers List and receiving more buyer inquiries.

We have also developed our very own Quality Assurance software! This means that each book listed by sellers must meet out quality assurance guidelines. If the QAS software deems that a book has violated any guidelines, it will automatically suspend the book! This means that the suspended book will not be shown to the buyers unless the seller edits the book and fixes all the errors. This has been done to provide accurate information to buyers and provide the best possible user experience for everyone.

We have also made other minor changes to the site such as the ability to edit multiple books, improved error messages, and fixing browser compatibility issues.
